Every All-Star has a story. Michael’s story is one of perseverance and passion—a young man who, through the years, has grown as an athlete and leader.
Born in China, Michael was adopted by Mike and Colleen in 2011. When the family realized he couldn’t hear, they learned sign language to communicate with him. Five surgeries later—and what his family describes as God’s blessing—he was finally able to hear.
Michael has autism, but he has learned to maximize what he calls his special abilities.

He loves reading, swimming, and cycling, and over the years, he has developed a passion for golfing. At just six years old, he began playing with his father, Police Commander Mike, and the two continue to share a love for the game.
The All-Stars Club is one of the places where Michael knows he is truly seen, valued, and loved. He participated in our XGolf Clinic in 2023, where he had the opportunity to practice his favorite sport while also having fun with friends. Since then, we have seen Michael grow in joy and confidence. Recently, he shared a devotion with other All-Stars, encouraging them through his own faith.

Now, we’re celebrating another incredible accomplishment: Michael won the Colorado State Special Olympics golf title in his group! This title is part of a bigger journey, one that is marked by confidence, encouragement, and passion.
Stories like Michael’s are why we started the All-Stars Club: to create opportunities for individuals with special needs to discover their gifts, build long-lasting friendships, and be celebrated for the exceptional person they are.
Michael’s journey is still unfolding, and we are grateful to be one small part of that journey, to cheer him on, and to celebrate each milestone.
